About Helen

Helen was born in the Netherlands and moved to Canada at an early age. As a self-taught artist, life experience, observation and instinct have provided Helen with the initiative and vision for her artistic endeavors.

Helen identifies herself as a British Columbian painter, whose work has been profoundly influenced by time spent living and working on the remote coast of British Columbia. Elemental forces of ocean, sky and mountains epitomize the energy and movement that compels Helen to paint the land.

The grandeur of the natural world and her place in it is what Helen defines in her paintings. Helen has been painting for many years and first began her artistic pursuits as a welder/blacksmith and later as a botanical illustrator in Central America.

Helen works full time as an artist and divides her time between the coast and the interior of British Columbia. Her work is exhibited in galleries in British Columbia, Alberta and belongs to private collections in eastern Canada.
